Post Rules: 1. No flaming other members. Everyone deserves to have the same respect and we want to make this a nice play to stay for everyone. Note that responding to a flame with a flame is a bad as starting a flame. So even if other people flame you, please do not "pay them back" by flaming. We take flaming very seriously. It is not tolerated here.
2. No spamming, because it just annoys everyone. We have a separate spam forum for this purpose. See below for our definition of spam.
3. Avoid offensive language such as excessive swearing. Even if it is not in English, please do not use such language. It is against Proboard’s Term of Service. So let’s try and keep it to a PG-13 level.
4. No pornography, racism, nazisms, sexism or unnecessary gore. These forums are meant for people of all ages. Even though many might not have anything against these, other people may not agree (like our hosting service).
5. Do not post illegal material. Generally do not post material that violates copyrights, and especially links to sites that distribute illegal material.
6. Advertisement. We have separate boards reserved for advertising sites, please only post site advertisement topics in those forums. (Advertising means a topic which sole purpose is to get people to get to the site you are posting).
7. Arrival and Departure. We have a separate board for welcoming topics and goodbye topics. So post them there and nowhere else.
8. Avoid double posting (2 replies in row). There is an edit button. However, it is usually more meaningful to post another reply to a topic, if you have something relevant to add to a topic after a certain time (so, use the edit option if there is something that needs to be added to your post, but if you are adding something completely unrelated to your previous post, then a reply might be better, because reply bumps the topic and marks it as new).
9. No thread hijacking. Do not post on someone else’s thread unless you have something relevant to input. Any post found violating this rule will be “moved” or deleted as deemed fit by an Admin or Moderator.
10. Do not reply to really old topics. Usually a new topic about a specific subject can be better than bringing up a really old topic by replying. A topic can be considered old if it's like more than 2 months old, or if the discussion really is finalized and has ended.
11. Do not bump topics. Bumping means replying a topic in sole purpose of rising it back to the top. Basically this is just spam, and just as annoying.
12. Censorship. Remember that while we respect your freedom of speech and will only in rare occasions censor what people have said, it does not make you any less responsible for the things you say.
13. Do not post personal information of other people. We'd like to respect everyone's privacy here, so that it's up to yourself how much information you are willing to reveal about you. So don't go posting other people's addresses, real names, email addresses, IM contact details, or any other personal information without the person's permissions. (Use PMs if you have to.)
14. Do not post downloadable executables, unless you are a respected member of the community. Unless we can be sure some program is safe, we will assume all executables to be either viruses or keyloggers.
Definition of Spam:
Spam is meaningless advertisement. For example, when you simply join this forum to post a link to another site. This also includes any topic which just contains a link and nothing else. Basically spam is unwanted advertisement. Spam can be also be posts without any meaning. Even if a post was considerably long but says absolutely nothing it can be considered spam. If you have absolutely nothing to add to a conversation, there is no need to do so. Spam can also be a very trivial post. I mean those posts that even though they have some meaning, they have no value. (i.e. posting in a topic just to say "I agree.")
Avatar Rules: 1. Avatars may not be more than 100 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall. The forum should handle this automatically, though. 2. Avatars may not be "annoying." Annoying could possibly include an avatar of flashing bright colors or anything else which the staff defines as annoying.
3. The same rules apply to avatars as those concerning forum posts on offensive content.
4. If an administrator member sends you a private message asking you to remove your avatar for certain reasons, then it must be removed or remain removed if the administrator has taken the action already.
Signature Rules: 1. Signatures may not be larger than 550 pixels in width and 150 pixels in height. No exceptions are made on this, and signatures breaking the rules will be removed and replaced with "signature too big" image.
2. If you use plain text on the signature, then it may freely overlap over the 550 pixels width, as long as the signature doesn't become taller than 150 pixels when viewed with an 800x600 resolution. One line of text can be considered to be 20 pixels high.
3. Signatures may not be "annoying." Annoying could possibly include a signature of flashing bright colors or anything else which the staff defines as annoying.
4. The same rules apply to signatures concerning illegal content as those that apply to normal posts.
5. Keep the file size of images in signatures as small as possible, so that it will not be a problem for people with slower connections (preferably under total of 50kb).
6. If an administrator sends you a private message asking you to remove your signature for certain reasons then it must be removed or remain removed if the administrator has taken the action already.
Custom Titles: 1. It is possible to get custom titles on this forum. If you are interested see this topic for more details: Custom Titles
Other Miscellaneous Rules: 1. Do not make offensive or misleading nicknames. Those will get you banned quickly here.
2. No impersonating other people, especially Admin or the Strange Revenants staff. No nickname will be chosen that is similar in sound, spelling or characteristics of any existing Administrator or Moderator. Any nickname found to be in violation of this rule could and/or will be changed or deleted at any time without prior notification or explanation to the member.
3. Do not abuse our bandwidth. We would not like to be kicked by our hosts, so just refrain from hitting the refresh button constantly and it should be fine.
4. "IP grabbers" are not allowed.
This list will be edited and/or updated as the Admin sees fit. Last Revision: January 16, 2006
